Our Students-turned-teachers

The annual Student Teachers' Day was held successfully on 9th July. This was a very meaningful activity, which not only gave a chance for S.4 and S.6 students to teach S.1 and S.2 students, but also let them understand the real meaning of responsibility.

The subjects taught were all very attractive, such as jazz dancing, film appreciation, origami, quadratic equation, creative thinking and etc. On this very special occasion, we had the pleasure to have some students and teachers from several primary schools in Tai Po as our guests. All our student teachers worked very hard to make sure that these guests and our lower-form students would have an exciting and unforgettable experience.

We interviewed Mr. Chan Kwok Fai, who was in charge of the S.T. Day. He said the preparation work of the S.T. day had been tough. In fact, the team started working in April. The schedule was tight, so the members faced a number of difficulties, including producing a good timetable for the event. However, Mr. Chan and his team treasured this rewarding experience. Moreover, Mr.Chan also appreciated teachers' and studentsˇ¦ effort. According to him, without everybody's devotion, the event would not have been so successful.

We also interviewed two student teachers, who were form 6. Chan Chi Pui from 6C prepared a film appreciation lesson for a group of form 2 students. She said that was a challenging job because she had to watch the whole movie, understand what it was about and what the theme was. She mentioned that film appreciation wasnˇ¦t a simple subject, as we should explore the meaning behind the story. Ng Ching Leung from 6C taught basketball. He said this was a precious chance for him and his classmates to have contact with junior students. He thought they could build up a good relationship with the junior students through playing basketball.

After the Student Teachers' Day, the students-turned-teachers understand how hard teaching is. They have to face many challenges and a lot of pressure. They have learnt how to solve problems and handle unexpected situations. Keeping the order in the classroom and making sure that everyone understands the lesson are just not easy. Student Teachers' Day can remind us that we should appreciate teachers' hard work and pay attention in class. Teachers do deserve our respect. We also believe that the tradition of Student Teachers' Day should be continued.
