Spring is in the air and here at MST, a refreshing reading atmosphere has blown away winter・s gloom with the Library・s annual Book Festival. Getting students and teachers together to celebrate great books and our outstanding reading culture is what the festival is all about. Here are a few of the memorable activities organized by the Library for this spring・s big book fling.
The mini book exhibition always attracts students and teachers like bees to flowers. One .busy bee・ junior form student remarked, :The book covers are all attractive and exquisite. I have spent 15 minutes here, but still can・t figure out which one to buy.; True! The books there were mesmerizing and the students were deeply engrossed in them. Not only were there English novels and short stories, but there was also a diversified collection of Chinese texts available as well. Some of the books were so popular that they sold out before the display ended. Many busy-bee book buyers must now be soaking up the nectar of the mind that these wonderful texts have brought to them.
Spring has always been a time for planting, and we were fortunate to have two special guests who planted the seeds of ideas for us during our special whole school assembly in the hall. Miss Au, who is a writer of detective stories, and Mr. Leung, who is one of our past teachers and now is a senior language instructor at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, joined us to share their love of books. Miss Au and Mr. Leung talked about detective stories in a creative and attractive way. We could see that the seed of literature they had planted had taken root with all the active responses they received to their questions during the Q & A session. Truly, we have benefited from their enthusiasm and knowledge!
New shoots need encouragement when they first emerge, and so do budding book reviewers. Fortunately, our lunchtime .Read and Share・ session provided some of MST・s book enthusiasts with a friendly, supportive environment for sharing their feelings and opinions with students and teachers.
Jointly organized by the Library, the English Society and the Chinese Language Department, it was a place where some of our younger students could share their experience and enjoyment in reading. The presenters have a chance to shine as they described their favourite books, and of course, the audience members benefited as well. An appreciation of good stories and good books seems to be growing well at MST.
Apart from these whole school activities, lots of interesting and exciting activities were held. For example, a book cover design competition in junior forms has brightened the hallway outside the library with colorful and eye-catching artwork. The S.1 story-telling competition and the online reading Q&A competition were other spotlights in this year・s dazzling festival.
The Book Festival this spring has been a huge success because our students have nurtured their love of reading by learning more about books and participating in a variety of activities. The spring Book Festival at MST: an opportunity to know and grow through reading.
