English Enhancement Day

April 21 was not a usual day. Why? It was MST's English Enhancement Day. MST students all wanted to make use of this chance to enhance their English abilities and all of the MST teachers were willing to help out. That's why they would only speak English with us on that day. To make the day a success, the English Department hosted lots of activities. Let・s take a look at all of the fun!

Playstations
Organized by the English Society, the playstations on the covered playground were definitely a highlight of the day. During both recesses we saw long queues of students waiting in front of the booths to participate in the interesting games. They were also getting their gifts for their outstanding achievements in collecting nine stickers on their passports.

One of the prize winners, Wong Sze Hang from 6B beamed widely as we congratulated him on receiving the prizes. "Certainly it・s great to get prizes for participating, but I didn・t join the activities for that. It・s the enjoyment I can get which brought me here." Then he proudly flashed his prizes, which included two packs of Oreos and several McDonald・s coupons. No wonder so many students had been so eager to take part in these activities!

"Shall We Chat"
:Shall We Chat; was at the core English Enhancement Day and was organized by the English Enhancement Committee (EEC). With badges on their chests, all of the EEC English Ambassadors strolled along the corridors, inviting students from different forms to chat with them. Each of them received a sticker for their passport after the conversation, which they could exchange for presents.

The idea of improving oral English through chatting casually sounds perfect, but many EEC Ambassadors were concerned about whether students would be willing to talk to them in English. Fortunately, they had nothing to worry about.

The students that the EEC English Ambassadors came across were wildly enthusiastic to chat with them. Sometime the students even dominated the conversation, talking ceaselessly so it was difficult to interrupt them.

One of the students was a little bit shy (she was fidgeting with her passport before approaching the English Ambassadors), yet still the conversation went smoothly and she really enjoyed it. The English Ambassadors even exchanged their text messaging addresses with some of the students so the conversations could go on beyond English Enhancement Day.

So it is true to say that the activities not only provided a chance for MST students to talk in English, but also an opportunity to befriend colleagues whom they have not communicated with before.

"Musical Drama"
The most brilliant part of the English Enhancement Day was the musical drama performed by Chunky Onion, which presented an amazing love story entitled "Aladdin & The Magic Lamp".

The whole audience was attentive to the excellent drama performance and even exhilarated. They cheered the character Aladdin when he was pursuing the princess, but as soon as the evil sorcerer, Abdul, appeared, everyone shouted "BOO" as loud as they could.

The Chunky Onion actors drove the audience to ecstasy when our teachers, Mr. Kwong Pak Ho, Mr. Cheung Pak Ho and Mr. Kowk Tsz Kwan were invited to dance on stage as a part of the performance. Everyone could not stop applauding and laughing as the teachers shook their bodies and waved their hands. Moreover, some lucky audience members also had the precious opportunity of playing a part with the characters on stage. Everyone was profoundly amused.

At the end of drama, a myriad of students were interested in the performance and asked the performers numerous questions. A photo taking section followed the Q & A session. All of the Chunky Onion members, teachers and some prize winners took photographs together.

One prize winner, Lo Kin Hei, from 6B, said that he experience certainly thrilled him as he enjoyed the drama so much. Asked if he would like the school to organize more English Enhancement Days, "Definitely !; he answered without he slightest trace of hesitation.

The Chunky Onion successfully showed students that English language activities can be interesting and taken up outside the classroom.

All in All, both teachers and students had great fun on English Enhancement Day. MST students made use of this opportunity to improve their English skills while having a good time, which means English Enhance Day reached its goal! Hip Hip Hurray!
